Shaker-Inspired Bathroom Vanity in Quilted Cherry

Background

This bathroom vanity was designed and built in our shop as part of the larger whole-hose renovation shown and discussed on the "Extensive Farmhouse Renovation" page.

Scope of Project

The design objective was to include shaker-like styling in a furniture-quality vanity with soapstone top. The vanity carcass includes an inner cabinet constructed of eco-friendly and US manufactured Baltic Birch plywood. This carcass was then clad with highly figured ("quilted") Pennsylvania Cherry faceframes, end panels, raised-panel doors and solid wood drawers. The cherry wood materials were milled in our shop from hand-selected rough timbers. The finish is a combination of oil-based polyurethane varnish and tung oil that produces a durable finish with "hand rubbed" appearance accentuating the highly figured nature of the solid cherry exterior.
